Sustainability Data Analyst (Contractor)

Job Description

As a Sustainability Analyst, you will play a critical role in supporting the implementation of Pure Storage’s Sustainability program. The Sustainability team sits within Pure’s Legal department, however you will partner with global and cross-functional teams such as Real Estate, Data Center Engineering, Legal, Finance, Human Resources, Supply Chain, and others, to manage the collection and tracking of sustainability data across the company and ensure accurate and transparent reporting to stakeholders.

Responsibilities include:

  • Liaise with internal stakeholders, utilize a software platform and coordinate collection of company-wide data for annual Impact Report and other annual sustainability disclosures, such as CDP, Ecovadis, regulatory filings, etc.
  • Assist in the preparation of the annual inventory for Scope 1, 2, and 3 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, as well as water and waste management data collection.
  • Maintain large datasets using various data analytics tools, and leverage AI to identify trends in datasets for forecasting and to simplify workstreams such as the annual sustainability report.
  • Support data management, analysis, visualization, and reporting.
  • Support internal and external sustainability data auditing and third-party verification.
  • Assist in responding to customer/prospect sustainability data requests and surveys.
  • Provide support with the execution of various sustainability projects and initiatives, including sustainability materiality assessments, employee engagement around Earth Day/Climate Week, renewable energy sourcing, GHG reduction goal modeling and achievement, circularity planning, etc.
  • Conduct ad hoc desk-based research into industry best practices and peer benchmarking on various sustainability topics.
  • Support research and data review for various rating and ranking agencies (e.g. Sustainalytics, ISS, MSCI, S&P Global, etc.) to help improve Pure’s scores year over year.
  • Support Sustainability Team’s day-to-day logistics and operations, including additional administrative work and task management

What we’re looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Engineering, Economics, Business Administration, Data Management/Data Science or related field.
  • Minimum 2-3 years of relevant work experience, preferably in sustainability consulting and/or at a technology company
  • Proficiency in data analysis and data management tools (e.g., Microsoft Excel) and ability to maintain and analyze large sets of environmental, social, and governance data for sustainability reporting purposes.
  • Solid understanding of greenhouse gas emissions accounting and reporting standards (e.g., GHG Protocol), and experience with corporate Scope 3 reporting
  • Familiarity with US and international climate regulations and standards (e.g. ISSB), and working knowledge of voluntary reporting frameworks, such as GRI, SASB, CDP, Ecovadis
  • Strong project management and time management skills to execute on multiple priorities in a fast-paced global setting.
  • Excellent critical thinking and analytical skills, with the ability to present metrics, explain findings, and articulate issues and challenges together with proposed solutions to various groups of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work cross functionally in a matrixed environment.
  • Ability to identify emerging issues, analyze potential impacts and translate ideas and insights into viable recommendations for action.
  • Estimate breakdown of time: Sustainability Reporting (40%), Sustainability Project Execution 20%, Customer Inquiries (20%), and Ad Hoc (20%).
  • Knowledge and experience in at least one of the following areas: electricity/power and renewable markets, operational water and waste management, circular economy, product sustainability, supply chain emissions management preferred.
  • Knowledge of environmental and/or social issues relevant to the technology industry preferred.
  • Experience in the technology industry, or manufacturing.
  • Comfort with taking the initiative and navigating complexity and uncertainty.
  • Passionate about making a positive impact and driving business outcomes.
